About Dystopia Rising:

This exhibition consists of over 20 new contemporary paintings that address current issues like the COVID-19 global pandemic, Trumpism, modern Catholicism, gun violence and mass-shootings, climate change, and social media surveillance technology. These topics are depicted through Medieval and Byzantine stylized art, and both juxtapose and draw parallels between historical and present day social issues.

These artworks draw inspiration from Adornato's Christian-Italian heritage as well as several art history research trips to Italy, Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, Greece, and Berlin.

Titles include: COVID-19 wreaks havoc in long-term care homes, Saint Karlos Contemplates the Consequences of Capitalism, The School of Athens Mass Shooting, In God We Trust, Everybody Gets a Gun, Joseph and Mario's adoption of the Magi, etc.

About the artist: Adornato is a non-religious former Catholic, and 1st generation Italian-French Canadian, born in Montréal, Quebec and based in Ottawa, Canada. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from NSCAD University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
